Hier vind je onder andere de grootste haven en het handelscentrum van het land. In eerste instantie zouden wij Colombo overslaan, maar we waren eigenlijk toch wel nieuwsgierig naar deze stad, waarover we trouwens weinig positiefs lazen. Omdat we een paar uur over hadden, besloten we toch af te reizen naar Colombo, voorafgaand aan onze vlucht naar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.traveldicted.com\/nl\/azie\/malediven\/\">De Malediven<\/a>. Het is \u00e9\u00e9n van de oudste gebouwen van Colombo Fort en stamt uit het Nederlandse koloniale tijdperk. De Nederlanders hebben het ziekenhuis gebouwd om de officieren en ander personeel van de VOC te kunnen verzorgen. Later heeft het gebouw ook nog gediend als politiegebouw. In 2011 is het omgebouwd tot een winkelgebied. Je vindt hier leuke boetiekjes en verschillende restaurants, zoals het bekende <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.nl\/Restaurant_Review-g293962-d2477739-Reviews-Ministry_of_Crab-Colombo_Western_Province.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ministry of Crab<\/a>. Jami Ul-Alfar is een moskee gelegen in de wijk Pettah en is \u00e9\u00e9n van de oudste moskee\u00ebn in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.traveldicted.com\/nl\/azie\/sri-lanka\/colombo\/\">Colombo<\/a>. De moskee is rood-wit gestreept, waardoor het een opvallende verschijning is! De moskee is gebouwd in 1900 en tegenwoordig een populaire toeristische attractie. Iedereen kan de moskee bezoeken en als je geen gepaste kleding aan hebt, dan kun je hier ook dekkende kleding lenen. Omdat wij niet veel tijd hadden, besloten wij om de moskee alleen van buiten te bekijken. In tegenstelling tot in de rest van Sri Lanka zie je hier vooral moslims.<\/p>\n<p>Als je, net als wij, Colombo als laatste bestemming van je reis door Sri Lanka bezoekt, dan gaat er wederom een wereld voor je open. Het is er ontzettend druk en het is daarom de beste plek om kennis te maken met het lokale leven in Colombo! Opvallend was dat er maar weinig toeristen rondlopen en je vooral lokale inwoners treft. Tenminste, dit was het geval toen wij de markt bezochten in november.<\/p>\n<p>Op de Pettah market vind je van alles! Kleding, schoenen, etenswaren, elektronica, dvd&#8217;s en nog veel meer. Je vindt het hier allemaal. De markt is erg groot en is verspreidt over talloze straten. Door hier rond te dwalen, ben je direct een bijzondere ervaring rijker.
