Na ons bezoek aan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.traveldicted.com\/nl\/europa\/ijsland\/reykjavik\/\">Reykjavik<\/a> reisden we door naar Selfoss, \u00e9\u00e9n van de grootste steden in Zuid-IJsland. Een knusse en betaalbare accommodatie!<\/p>\n<p>In Selfoss zelf valt niet veel te beleven, maar het is wel een goede uitvalsbasis voor een aantal bezienswaardigheden. De krater is zo&#8217;n 170 bij 270 meter en is 55 meter diep. Er zijn verschillende verhalen over het ontstaan van het kratermeer, maar er wordt er vanuit gegaan dat Keri\u00f0 een kegelvulkaan was die tijdens een uitbarsting is ingestort. Het water in het kratermeer heeft een prachtige turquoise kleur en is zo&#8217;n 10 meter diep.<\/p>\n<p>Het is mogelijk om vanaf de rand van de krater af te dalen tot aan het kratermeer. Hier is een trap voor aangelegd, waardoor je er eenvoudig kunt komen. Tijdens ons bezoek lag er sneeuw en was het kratermeer dichtgevroren, wat het ook erg bijzonder maakte. Het is dat ik geen schaatsen mee had, anders kon ik schaatsen in een vulkaan van mijn bucketlist strepen ;-).<\/p>\n<p>De kosten voor het bezoeken van de krater bedragen 400 ISK per springs<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>De Reykjadalur vallei is een geothermisch gebied gelegen op zo&#8217;n 20 minuten rijden van Selfoss. Door deze vallei loopt een pad dat je kunt bewandelen. Als je het pad volgt, kom je uiteindelijk uit bij een warmwater rivier. Deze rivier is warm, omdat hij vanuit een warmwaterbron ontstaat. Een erg bijzondere ervaring! Niet alleen de rivier is bijzonder, maar ook het gebied waar je door heen loopt. Het pad loopt door de bergen en leidt je langs diverse hot springs. Overal komt stoom uit de grond en zie je kleine baden die door de warmte aan het bubbelen zijn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let op: Deze baden zijn kokend heet, dus raak dit water niet aan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De afstand van de parkeerplaats tot de rivier bedraagt ongeveer 3,5 kilometer. In de zomer heb je vanaf het wandelpad prachtig uitzicht over een groene vallei, maar dit is in de winter wel wat anders. Tijdens onze tocht sneeuwde en waaide het ontzettend hard. Bovendien lag er ook veel sneeuw op het pad, waardoor het best een heftige tocht was. Ik had een beetje het gevoel dat we meededen aan Expeditie Poolcirkel! Eenmaal aangekomen bij de rivier bleek deze niet echt warm te zijn, maar lauw. Dit was voor ons nogal een tegenvaller na zo&#8217;n barre tocht. Deze waterval ligt eigenlijk tussen Selfoss en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.traveldicted.com\/nl\/europa\/ijsland\/vik\/\">V\u00edk<\/a> in. Vanaf Selfoss is het ongeveer 55 minuten rijden en vanaf V\u00edk is dat ongeveer 45 minuten. Zelf bezochten wij de Seljalandsfoss waterval toen wij van Selfoss richting V\u00edk reden, want dan kom je er langs!<\/p>\n<p>De Seljalandsfoss waterval is 65 meter hoog. Hetgeen dat de waterval erg bijzonder maakt, is heit feit dat je er achter langs kunt lopen. Daar waar het water van de Seljalandsfoss waterval nu overheen stroomt, was vroeger de IJslandse kustlijn. Hoe bizar is dat? Moet je nagaan hoe veel het water is gezakt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let op: Wil je achter de waterval langs lopen? Trek dan wel een regenjas aan, want je wordt ontzettend nat!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De Seljalandsfoss waterval is gratis te bezoeken.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-2' class='gallery galleryid-2030 class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Op zo&#8217;n 5 minuten loopafstand van de Seljalandsfoss waterval vind je de Glj\u00fafrafoss waterval. Deze waterval is kleiner dan de Seljalandsfoss, maar ook erg bijzonder! In eerste instantie zie je de Glj\u00fafrafoss niet, omdat deze verstopt is tussen een aantal rotsen. Het is mogelijk om tussen de rotsen door naar de waterval toe te lopen, al heb je dan wel goede regenlaarzen nodig. Helaas hadden wij deze niet bij ons en was het water te hoog om zonder regenlaarzen de waterval van dichtbij te bewonderen!<\/p>\n<p>De omgeving van de waterval is ook erg mooi. Zo ver als je kunt kijken is het groen en er staan een aantal schattige, IJslandse huisjes. Een prachtig gebied om een aantal mooie foto&#8217;s te maken!<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-3' class='gallery galleryid-2030 gallery-columns-2 gallery-size-medium'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div
