Je rijdt, achterin een pick-up, door de woestijn en een gids laat jou de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden van Wadi Rum zien. Het bedoe\u00efenententenkamp waar wij verbleven, biedt verschillende jeep tours aan die vari\u00ebren van 2 tot 8 uur. Wij hebben gekozen voor de 4 uur durende tour en deze was voor ons perfect! In 4 uur tijd zagen we de mooiste bezienswaardigheden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip: Overdag kan het erg warm worden en het is daarom verstandig om een pet of een doek, zoals een echte <em>keffiyeh<\/em> (Arabisch hoofddeksel), mee te nemen. Niet alle jeeps hebben een overkapte bak, waardoor je de hele dag met je hoofd in de volle zon zit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De tour kun je los boeken, maar ook in combinatie met een overnachting. Dit is wat wij hebben gedaan, waardoor de kosten 110 JOD bedroegen voor twee personen. Wil je niet overnachten in het kamp en enkel een jeep tour doen? Dan betaal je 70 JOD voor twee persoon voor een 4 uur durende jeep tour. In deze prijs zijn transfers van en naar Wadi Rum Village, begeleiding door een lokale Bedoe\u00efenen gids en thee en water inbegrepen. De tijden voor de tour kun je vooraf bespreken met \u00e9\u00e9n van de medewerkers van de accommodatie. class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>De bezienswaardigheden die wij hebben bezocht tijdens de tour zijn Lawrence Spring, een grote zandduin, Lawrence House, Chicken Rock, Khazali Canyon, Um Fruth Rock Bridge en de Small Arch naast onze accommodatie. Hieronder vind je informatie over de bezienswaardigheden die wij hebben bezocht.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lawrence_Spring\"><\/span>Lawrence Spring<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Vlakbij het Wadi Rum Village, op zo&#8217;n 2 kilometer afstand, vind je Lawrence Spring. Naast de Bedoe\u00efenentent, waar je heerlijke thee en souvenirs kunt kopen, vind je een weg omhoog, vanwaar je kunt genieten van een prachtig uitzicht over de ruines en de vallei! Hierboven vind je Lawrence Spring en een aantal inscripties. Bij het kamp staat een grote groep kamelen. Ik weet niet precies hoe de zandduin heet die wij hebben bezocht, maar deze was erg tof! Naast de zandduin vind je een rots die je kunt beklimmen en vanwaar je over een gedeelte van de vallei kunt uitkijken. Het is een 100 meter lange en smalle kloof in de Jabal Khazali. De binnenmuren van de canyons zijn bedekt met Nabateaanse, islamitische en Thamudische inscripties en petrogliefen. Je vindt er Nabatee\u00ebnse tekeningen van kamelen, paarden, berggeiten, mensen en geesten. De islamitische inscripties gaan over God en de profeet Mohammed en zijn nog in goede staat, omdat ze buiten de invloed van zon, wind, regen en mensen zijn getekend. De brug ligt ongeveer op 15 meter hoogte en is een natuurverschijnsel. Om boven op de brug te komen, moet je een stukje klimmen. In de rots zie je een soort van route die je kunt volgen. Doe voorzichtig, want het is best een steile klim en de rots kan heet zijn aan je handen en voeten. Thomas Edward Lawrence (1888-1935) was een Britse officier, die vocht tijdens de Arabische Opstand tegen de Ottomaanse Turken (1916-1918). Lawrence heeft een autobiografisch boek geschreven over deze periode met de titel &#8216;Zeven Zuilen van Wijsheid&#8217;, dat in de jaren zestig is verfilmd door David Lean onder de naam &#8216;Lawrence of Arabia&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Ondanks dat er niet veel meer van het huis over is, is Lawrence House zeker een bezoek waard. Achter het huis staat nog een rots, vanwaar je wederom een prachtig uitzicht hebt over de vallei. Om er te komen moet je eerst een stukje klimmen, maar eenmaal boven was deze klim zeker de moeite waard!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip: Beklim de boog net voor zonsondergang. In het tentenkamp vind je 15 tenten om in te overnachten, \u00e9\u00e9n gezamenlijke tent waar je kunt eten, drinken of relaxen en een (schoon) sanitair gebouw.
