Tip: Where to eat and drink in Unawatuna

Looking for nice places to eat and drink in Unawatuna? We stayed one night in this village and had dinner and breakfast here once. Since we ate very well at both places, I recommend both restaurants. In this article you can read about the two places we had breakfast and dinner.

Breakfast or lunch at SkinnyTom’s Deli Unawatuna

SkinnyTom’s Deli is an eatery next to the popular Bedspace Beach hostel. The food served is tasty and there’s plenty of choice! They serve Hoppers, a typical Sri Lankan dish that you should definitely try! Hoppers are a kind of bowl-shaped pancakes and they come in all shapes and sizes. Besides Hoppers, you will also find delicious pancakes and sandwiches. All dishes are written on the chalkboards above the counter. You can order at the counter and then pick a nice spot. Your order will be brought to you. Besides the delicious breakfast and lunch dishes, they also serve delicious coffees, juices and desserts. SkinnyTom’s Deli is a popular place to work (for bloggers) or to read a book.

Eating at Tartaruga

Tartaruga Restaurant is part of the Tartaruga Beach Hotel and, as the name of the hotel suggests, is situated on the Unawatuna beach. The restaurant looks cozy and the tables are set on the beach, so you can sit with your bare feet in the sand while having diner. I love it! The menu is very extensive, allowing you to order Sri Lankan dishes, but Italian and other international cusine as well. If you are looking for a nice place to dine in the evening in Unawatuna, I’d definitely recommend Tartaruga!

Tip: You also have the possibility to choose your own freshly caught fish, which they then prepare on the barbecue on the beach. That’s awesome!
